Despite torrential rain and mild flooding, the Brisabane R UnConference brought together 30 data scientists from academia and industry and we spent two days focussed on challenges relating to open data, open science, reproducibility, and automation.
We worked on projects such as Ozdata - which aimed to make it easier to work with a range of Australian data sets; the datascikit - DIY Data Science self paced learning modules that take students through the steps of generating transport data maps of their city of choice; sevelopment of the ecchidna package and a range of others that can be seen here.
The Unconference was held at the emergency location of QUT after the Microsoft Innovation Centre in Brisbane was closed due to flooding. The rain didn't dampen our enthusiasm though, and a great time was had by all.
